Moving Forward, Peratining to the Nature of SPACE

SIRG COLLABORATORS

SIRG Group has both internal and external collaborators. Projects funded by ISI internal grants are being currently dealt with by SIRG members. These ongoing / proposed projects are on “Derivation of spatially significant set via spatial analysis and reasoning’ and “Pattern classification with granular neural networks”. This group is also taking part in preparation of IRSES project proposal for approval of EU. So far, two conferences and a short term course was organized with objectives relevant to SIRG. These conferences are on “Spatial Information Retrieval, Analysis, Reasoning and Modelling”, and “Mathematical Morphology in Image Analysis, Geomorphology, GISci” Details of these events could be seen at http://www.isibang.ac.in/~sirarm, http://www.isibang.ac.in/~cwjs70.

Prominent relevant Groups dealing with this type of research include National Centre for Geographic Information Analysis (NCGIA) and University California-Santa Barbara, Centre for Advanced Spatial Analysis (CASA) at University College London, SIGSPATIAL-ACM, Spatial Analysis and Other Spatial Data Labs (University of Toronto), Grant F. Walton Centre for Remote Sensing and Spatial Analysis, McMaster University Centre for Spatial Analysis , Spatial Analysis and Modeling Specialty Group of the American Association of Geographers (AAG), Centre for Spatially Integrated Social Science, Centre for Geographical Analysis at Harvard University.

For prospective students aspiring to pursue research:
Spatial Informatics Research Group (SIRG)—at Systems Science and Informatics Unit (SSIU), under Computer and Communication Sciences Division (CCSD) of Indian Statistical Institute—is a place for students, who qualified in ISI-JRF-CS to pursue research leading to a PhD degree (in Computer Science) by Indian Statistical Institute. Research topics related to spatial informatics broadly include (i) spatial information retrieval, (ii) geographical visualization, (iii) spatial analysis, (iv) spatial reasoning, (v) spatio-temporal modelling, (vi) mathematical morphology, granular computing and several other geometrically vigorous theories, and their applications to deal with topics mentioned in (i-v). Enquiries from students, qualified to pursue research leading to PhD, are welcome to have in-depth discussion on these topics.
