A workshop and a conference on ``Groups and geometries'' will be organized at the Indian Statistical Institute, Bangalore Centre, during December 10 - 21, 2012.
This will be a follow-up of the ICM Satellite Conference on "Buildings, Finite geometries and Groups" held at the Indian Statistical Institute, Bangalore Centre, during August 29-31, 2010. Springer published a volume in December 2011 on the topic of this conference which comprised of articles by the speakers in the conference and some invited authors. Many fundamental problems which are being actively persued in the areas related to groups of exceptional type, Coxeter groups, the geometries related to Lie incidence systems, etc. The main focus of the conference will be the structure and the geometry of groups of exceptional type; groups of rank 1 and Moufang sets; and the structure and geometry of Coxeter groups. In this two-week programme, the first week will be a workshop which includes expository talks and presentation of short papers. In the second week, apart from paper presentation, we are planning to invite some experts working in the cutting edge of the areas of focus of the conference with emphasis on progress on the current research problems and problems for the future. We intend to publish a volume based on this conference with the purpose of giving an up-to-date account of some parts of the topics of the conference. For further details contact: Professor N.S.
