How to reach IISc

Transport from / to the Airport

IISc is about 20 km from the Bangalore Airport (both domestic and International). Prepaid taxis are available at the airport to all parts of the city. While both private and government (KSTDC) taxis are available, we strongly recommend the government-run (KSTDC) taxi for its hassle-free service and clean cars. Look for the KSTDC (Karnataka State Tourism Development Corporation) counter just outside the baggage claim area. The prepaid fare to the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) is Rs.250/-. Fare includes tips (service compris) and baggage handling. Ask for your and the driver's receipts at the counter, and hand over the driver's receipt only after reaching your destination. Getting around Bangalore

Auto-rickshaws and City Taxis are a convenient mode of transport as they are easily available. Most of the drivers are affable and honest and are multilingual. Apart from the local language most of the drivers are conversant in Hindi, and English. The fare charges for auto-rickshaws are Rs 5.00 per km with a minimum fare of Rs 10.00 for three passengers. When operated out of city limits and between 2200 and 0500, the autos charge one and a half times the normal meter reading. The fare charges for city taxis are Rs. 10 per km with a minimum fare of Rs. 40.

Reaching IISc From the Main Railway Station:

The main railway station in Bangalore is called ``Bangalore City'' which is about 7 km from IISc. The railway station and the main bus stand are opposite to each other. Pre-paid autorickshaw facility is available at the Bangalore City Railway Station. You could tell the counterperson that you are travelling to Indian Institute of Science (locally called Tata Institute). A trip to IISc may cost about Rs. 35. Travel by autorickshaws between 10:00 p.m. and 06:00 a.m. will cost 50% more. From the Railway station, come through Malleswaram Circle, and Malleswaram 18th Cross. Come to the IISc Circle, and take a right turn. The J N Tata Auditorium is located to the right side of the road at an approximate 0.5 Km.

Reaching IISc From the Yeshwantpur Railway Station:

There is a new train from Kolkata to Yeshwantpur, which runs biweekly. Yeshwantpur is a small railway station, located within Bangalore, but it is not THE main railway station of Bangalore. One good thing about Yeshwantpur is that it is very close to Indian Institute of Science, where the J N Tata Auditorium is located. From Yeshwantpur (YPR in Railway language), railway station, you can take an auto rickshaw to come to J N Tata Auditorium. You say that you would like to go to "Tata Institute". The autorickshaw ride from Yeshwantpur to IISc will cost around Rs. 10 to Rs. 15.
