Among the four pillars of science of the 21st century namely, nanotechnology, biotechnology, information technology and cognitive science the last one is the least represented in India, but taking up fast. It has been identified as a thrust area for development of research by the Government of India in the 11th five year plan period. In order to popularize the brain science research Brain Science Awareness Workshop was hosted for the first time in the Systems Science and Informatics Unit (SSIU) of the Indian Statistical Institute Bangalore Center (ISIBC) on 15th March 2010. Since the brain science has emerged as the biggest interdisciplinary science ever, it is important to create an interest in the subject among a very wide cross section of students and researchers. In order to understand the brain molecular biologists, cell physiologists, geneticists, biochemists, physicists, computer scientists, mathematicians, engineers, statisticians, neurologists, medical doctors, psychologists and others are working together, often under the same roof. The purpose of this annual Brain Science Awareness Workshop has been to offer an exposure of the multidisciplinary frontiers of the brain science to a general scientific audience of all disciplines. Hopefully this type of workshops will attract more and more researchers to the brain science and will also foster collaborations among diverse research groups. Each lecture will be popular as well as informative and stimulating in nature about the frontier research in Neuroscience. Duration of each lecture is one hour including ten minutes for questions.
