• Personal Profile and Education:
    Born on Sunday 21.08.1960 at New Delhi.
    Left-handed.
    School education from May 1965 to March 1976 at MEA School Karol Bagh and and DTEA schools Lodi Estate, Delhi.
    B.Sc. Hons. Mathematics from May 1976 to April 1979, Hansraj College, Delhi University.
    M.Sc. Mathematics from May 1979 to April 1981 at the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi.
    Ph.D., Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Bombay (Supervisor M S Raghunathan, FRS) and held various positions from August 1981 - April 1999.
    Joined Indian Statistical Institute Bangalore Center in May 1999, and am at present Professor (HAG).





  • Some Responsibilities and Recognitions:
    Elected Fellow of the National Academy of Sciences, Allahabad, India;
    National Co-ordinator in charge of the Mathematics Olympiad program in India;
    President, Indian Mathematical Society (starting April 1, 2020).
    Member, Board of Studies of Homi Bhabha National Institute.
    Member, Board of Studies, Christ University Bangalore.
    Member, Recruitment Committee, IIIT Bangalore.



  • Research interests:
    Algebraic groups over global and local fields, Combinatorial methods in group theory and number theory, Diophantine equations, Division algebras, Algebraic number theory, K-theory.
