Problem of the Month

Solution provided by Gaurav and Soumya

In the given problem the hypotenuse of the greatest right angled triangle in both of the figures is not a straight line. For if on the contrary we assume that they are so , then by similarity of triangles ( namely the green and biggest triangle in the first figure and the red and the biggest triangle in the 2nd figure the straight line condition imposes (5/13) = ( 3/8) in 2nd case and (2/5) = (5/13) in the first case which are not true. So we get such a hole for misleading pictures. In the first case the hypotenuse is bent downwards and in the 2nd case it is bent upwards.
