The 55th International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO2014) was held at Cape Town, South Africa from July 03-13, 2014. The six-member Indian team secured 1 Silver Medal, 3 Bronze Medals and 2 Honourable Mention in this prestigious event.

560 students from 101 countries participated in this prestigious world event for young meritorious students in mathematics.
The team was led by Prof. B. J. Venkatachala, Mathematical Olympiad Cell, HBCSE, TIFR, Banglore, the Deputy Leader was Shri. Kiran Barve, Pune and Dr. Prithwijit De of Mathematical Olympiad Cell, HBCSE, TIFR, Mumbai and Prof. V. M. Sholapurkar of Department of Mathematics, S. P. College, Pune accompanied the team as Observers.
The Mathematical Olympiad programme is organised under the aegis of the National Board for Higher Mathematics (NBHM), Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), Government of India. The final team was selected after a month-long training camp (April 21 to May 19, 2014) held at the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (TIFR), Mankhurd, Mumbai. The training camp was co-ordinated by Prof. B. J. Venkatachala of the Mathematical Olympiad Cell of HBCSE, TIFR, Bangalore and Dr. Prithwijit De Mathematical Olymapiad Cell, HBCSE, TIFR, Mumbai.
