NBHM Nurture Programme (ISI-Bangalore 2007 to 2011) | |||
The NBHM nurture programme is meant for Under-Graduate students who have shown exceptional abilities in mathematics during their High School years and continue to be interested in pursuing mathematics. The programme is intended to put such students in touch with concepts in mathematics that would not be accessible to them otherwise. As these students are in professional or multi-disciplinary courses, they are not being exposed to topics that would have been covered by a student who has Mathematics as the primary subject. The programme is primarily intended for students not in a B. Math. (or equivalent) course but B. Sc. Mathematics students may also find it beneficial. The rough outline of the programme of each year is that during the academic year the faculty of this programme provides guidance (via correspondence, preferably by e-mail) for self-study on a number of selected topics and this is followed by a summer contact programme when students visit Indian Statistical Institute, Bangalore where there would be lectures and problem solving sessions on selected topics which would serve as revision of the previous year's topics and an introduction to the topics for the coming year. During the summer contact programme, in addition to the afore-stated, there would be special/popular lectures by well known mathematicians. During the summer contact programme of each year the students would be quizzed/tested on the topics taught during the contact programme and also on topics assigned as self-study during the year. Continuation in the following year's programme is subject to satisfactory performance during the contact programme. Syllabus for the First Year of the NBHM Nurture programme 2007-2011 Suggested list of excercises: Students are not expected to solve all the excercises, few of these excercises would be discussed in the contact programme. Syllabus for the Second Year of the NBHM Nurture programme 2007-2011 First part of suggested list of excercises for 2nd year: Students are not expected to solve all the excercises, few of these excercises would be discussed in the contact programme. Second part of suggested list of excercises for 2nd year: Students are not expected to solve all the excercises, few of these excercises would be discussed in the contact programme.
