Admission and Financial Support
You can enter the Ph.D. program of the institute in one of two possible options:
  1. Junior Research Fellow of the Institute

    To enter the Ph.D. program as a Junior Research fellow of the insitute there are two basic requirements that have to be satisfied:

    Eligibility: Any student possessing a good academic record with M.Stat., M.A, M.Sc. or equivalent degree in Mathematics. We also consider outstanding candidates with B.Stat/ B.Math.,/B.A./B.Sc. or equivalent degree with Mathematics as the main subject.

    Entrance test and interview: have to be cleared by all candidates. These are held in the first week of May. Advertisements appear in National news papers and also on our web-site in the month of February.

    Financial Support: Junior Research Fellowship provides a monthly stipend of Rs.16000 per month. There is a special fellowship of Rs.20000 per month for exceptionally meritorious candidates. The fellowship is extended annually as long as normal progress is maintained. The fellowship also carries a contingency grant of Rs.20000 per annum. The amount may be spent for purchase of books and stationeries, photocopying, thesis typing and binding, submission fee etc. On satisfactory completion of two years, the monthly stipend will be raised to Rs.18000.

  2. Junior Research Fellow of CSIR or NBHM

    Suppose you have obtained a Junior Research fellow funded by CSIR/NBHM or any other agency.

    To join: Please write an email to, statmath AT isibang DOT ac DOT in, letting them know of your intention to do a Ph.D. at the Bangalore centre. Then we shall get in touch with you with regard to a suitably convenient date for an independent written test and interview.
