Recent Advances in Operator Theory and Operator Algebras (OTOA)

December 9-19. 2014. ISI Bangalore

March 28, 2014

Dear Colleague,

Greetings from Bangalore!

This is the first announcement of a workshop-cum-conference ''Recent advances in Operator Theory and Operator Algebras - 2014'', OTOA-2014, to be held at Indian Statistical Institute, Bangalore during December 9-December 19, 2014. This conference is a continuation of the bi-annual series of OTOA's being held at ISI, Bangalore.

Workshop (9th to 13th December, 2014): The main speakers for the workshop are:

(A) Prof. Hari Bercovici (Indiana University Bloomington, USA) on Schubert Calculus and Operator Theory.

(B) Prof. David Kerr (Texas A&M University, USA) on Amenability, Soficity, Entropy, and Operator Algebras.

(C) Prof. Vern Paulsen (University of Houston, USA) on Operator Systems and their Tensor Products.

(D) Prof. Dan Timotin (Institute of Mathematics of the Romanian Academy, Romania) on Stable Polynomials and the Solution to the Kadison-Singer Conjecture.

Conference (15th to 19th December, 2014): The conference intends to cover all aspects of Operator Algebras and Operator Theory. We aim at having mostly invited talks. There could be a few contributed talks from youngsters. There will be plenty of time for discussions in a relaxed atmosphere. The names of invited speakers will be on the conference website as soon as they confirm to us that they are likely to come.

The workshop and the conference will intentionally be held in a largely informal style.

There will be no registration fee. We hope to provide local hospitality with guest house/hostel accommodation to all the participants who are not from Bangalore. Domestic travel support can be provided to a limited number of participants. Please let us know of your interest in participation as soon as possible. The total number of participants would be limited. In order to estimate accommodation requirements, do inform us as to whether you are interested in participation in both the weeks or not. Formal registration for the conference is to be done in due course.

Yours,

B. V. Rajarama Bhat (ISI, Bangalore)

Jaydeb Sarkar (ISI, Bangalore)

V. S. Sunder (I.M.Sc., Chennai).
