  • Broad area: development economics, agricultural economics, food security, gender, labour economics.
  • Special interests: poverty and inequality, human development, food security, rural credit, women and work, child labour and education.

Teaching

  • At Oxford, I taught undergraduate courses in principles of economic theory, international economics, public economics and economic development. At the University of Helsinki, I taught a lecture course on intermediate microeconomic theory and at the Helsinki School of Economics, I taught advanced microeconomics. At IGIDR, Mumbai, I taught the following courses as part of the Institute's M. Phil and Ph.D programme: Agricultural Economics and Development Theory and Policy.
  • I have taught optional papers in Economic Development in the MSQE (Masters in Quantitative Economics) programme at the Indian Statistical Institute and also taught Agricultural Economics and Labour Economics in the M.Sc (Economics) course at the University of Calcutta.
  • I have been teaching courses for the Ph.D in Development Studies at the Economic Analysis Unit of the Indian Statistical Institute Bangalore, from July 2015. I also teach Economics papers for the undergraduate B. Math programme at ISI Bangalore.
  • I have guided ten doctoral students, and have another 10 students under my supervision. All these theses have been based on empirical analysis of secondary and primary data related to the rural economy.
