About the Unit |
|
|
The Economic Analysis Unit, a wing of the Social Sciences Division of the
Indian Statistical Institute, was established in January 1979. It has earned a good
measure of recognition in India and abroad for its Outststanding contributions in the
field of Quantitative Economics. The unit has attracted a good number of foreign scholars
as visitors.It has fully developed teaching and research facilities for scholars
registered for the Institute's Ph.D degree in the area of Applied Economics and
Econometics.
Apart from teaching and guiding research activities, the faculty also provids technical
services as members of expert committees/research teams set up by Central and State
Governments, the Reserve Bank of India and other autonomous research institutions.They
hold membership in reputed professional bodies like the International Statistical
Institute, the Indian Econometric Society and the Indian Economic Association.
The EAU has on-going research projects aimed at publishing high quality papers and useful
technicl reports in socially relevant areas of economic research. From time to time, it
organizes conferences, seminars and owrkshops on topics of current interest in
collaboration with national and International organisations. The EAU, though small in
size, over the years has grown up into a centre with excellent potential for future
growth.

Achievement |

The EAU has on-going research projects aimed at publishing high quality papers and useful
technical reports in socially relevant areas of economic research. From time to time it
organises conferences, seminars, and workshops on topics of current interest in
collaboration with national and international organisations. The EAU, over the years has
grown up into a centre with excellent potential for future growth.The EAU has brought out a number of working papers by its own faculty and in
collaboration with scientists from other research organisations and universities. Quite
many of them were also published in reputed international academic journals such as
Econometrica, Journal of Development Economics, Journal of Policy Modeling and the Journal
of Econometrics. The research works of the faculty has also been published as boos
by Oxford University Press, North-Holland/Elsevier, Springer Verlag and Allied publishers.
For the benefit of the faculty and research scholars, the EAU has
successfully organised a series of lecture in the following areas:
- Applied Time Series Analysis
- Bayesian Decision Analysis and Bayesian Analysis in Statistics
The EAU has also conducted three summer/winter courses in
Quantitative Economics during 1989, 1990 and 1991 for faculty and research scholars from
various universities all over India.

Change" (August 1985, in collaboration with S.S.R.C, USA)
- The 66th all India Economic Conference (December 1983)
- The 22nd Econometric Conference (January 1984)
- The Silver Jubilee Conference of the Indian Econometric Society
(January 1988)
- The first Indo-Us Workshop on Bayesian Analysis in Statistics and
Econometrics (December 1988, in collaboration with Indian Econometric Society, the Ohio
State University (USA), the National Science Foundation (USA), and NBER-SBIE (USA).

Academic Programs |
|
|
The EAU at Bangalore Centre offers advanced courses in statistical and quantitative
economics leading to registration for the Ph.D. degree. The Unit has been training several
research scholars successfully and some of them have obtained their Ph.D degree from the
Indian Statistical Institute.
The teaching programme for the research scholars is, though unstructured, tailored to
their specific needs. These important courses impart basic knowledge of economics and
statistics, often supplemented by special lectures by reputed scholars from India and
abroad. ISI Bangalore Centre has started a two year MS
programme in Quantitative Economics (MSQE).
