This is an afternoon of talks in honour of our colleague S. Ramasubramanian's career at ISI, Bangalore. We shall have two talks and a small felicitation ceremony.


Schedule


  1. Speaker : Vivek Borkar, Indian Institute of Technology,Bombay at Mumbai.

    Title : The other side of applied mathematics: some diffuse reflections.

    Time : 2.00 PM - 3.00 PM.

    Abstract: This will be a meandering pontification about some issues in applied mathematics research and education, with special reference to the Indian ethos.


  2. Speaker : Rajeeva Karandikar, Chennai Mathematical Institute at Chennai.

    Title: On Sigma-Martingales.

    Time : 3.15 PM - 4.15 PM.

    Abstract: In this talk, we will discuss Sigma-martingales, a notion that has been around for over 25 years but is not that well known. We will discuss this and several related questions from stochastic calculus and its relationship with mathematical finance.
