Moving forward, Peratining to the Nature of SPACE

Scope of SIRG

SIRG provides a forum for researchers, engineers, and practitioners in all applications that involve spatial information. SIRG encourages

  1. Fundamental research in handling spatial information, and
  2. Interdisciplinary education among spatial information researchers, students, and practitioners.

Members of SIRG will collaborate with other related members of the Indian Statistical Institute, as well as non-ISI members. Researchers and practitioners from related disciplines (e.g., geography, civil engineering, resources management) will be particularly welcome in SIRG. SIRG will be a place for researchers, and students interested in research, development, and deployment of solutions to Spatial Information Retrieval, Visualization, Analysis, Reasoning and Modelling problems. The spatial phenomena that would be given emphasis include, for example, human spatial phenomena, natural spatial phenomena (e.g. urban sprawl, landforms, terrain modelling, earth, atmospheric and ocean phenomena as derived from remotely sensed data sources) to understand via visualization of the spatial characteristics of these phenomena, and to unravel the hidden mechanisms to further predict future phenomena to provide spatial policies. We emphasize on providing new ideas that lead to better understanding of spatial information—from retrieval, visualization, analysis, reason and modelling points of view—with firm quantitative basis.
