Research Interests & Goals

I am interested in exploring how information is encoded, transmitted and decoded in the brain. It is a very complex process involving electrical and chemical activities
at myriad spatial and temporal scales, involving not just the brain alone, but the whole body along with the brain. Here in our research group we only scratch at
the tip of the iceberg – do brain electrical signal and information processing. Specific patterns of brain electrical signals from specific locations at specific
times carry specific information. I am interested in geometric analysis of such patterns and their relationship with the underlying physiological processes.
The model that we use for this purpose is human epileptic seizures. Alongside more conventional clinical studies like automatic seizure detection, exploring
relationship between complex partial seizures and loss of consciousness, studying the synchronization (by various means) profile across the sEEG or iEEG
channels before during and after the seizures, studying effects of deep brain stimulation on the signal patterns, exploring relationship between micro-seizures
and clinical seizures, we explore information encoding in digital signals in terms of atomic motifs and its implications in the brain electrical signal processing.

Currently I am looking for a fulltime intern to work on deep brain stimulation data of epileptic patients. The position carries an internship of Rs. 20000/m and for six
months, with possibility to be extended to one year. The work will be in collaboration with Dr. S. Pati of University of Alabama at Birmingham. The ideal candidate
would be an engineering graduate in electrical/electronics/computer science with experience in signal processing. E-mail CV with a one page statement on why
you are interested in the position at the above addresses. Application processing will start in January 2019 and will continue till the position is filled.
